Pilot ISP
Pilot Independent Study Program
In our desire to serve the unique needs of each student, and in accordance with California Department of Education guidelines, JSerra has implemented a pilot Independent Study Program (“ISP”) for the 2007-2008 school year.
Under the ISP, select students will be permitted to take certain courses through various approved on-line programs. The program will be limited to students who cannot practicably attend courses on campus on a full-time basis due to medical or other compelling reasons. Only those students approved by the Principal may participate in the ISP. Participating students may take certain courses through distance learning curricula approved by the Vice Principal for Curriculum. Students who participate in the ISP must attend and complete certain key courses (such as religion courses) on campus and must take tests and assessments for their on-line courses at school, under the supervision of a JSerra representative, unless other arrangements are approved by the school.
ISP students are expected to be participating members of the school community, to the extent practicable under their particular circumstances. For example, ISP students are expected to attend school-time events, such as weekly Masses, pep rallies, class meetings, and counseling appointments. ISP students also are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities, such as sports events and dances. Students who participate in the ISP and meet all other JSerra and CIF requirements are eligible to play in CIF-sanctioned athletic events. ISP students are not eligible to receive school academic awards, such as the Valedictorian, Salutatorian, and Scholar Athlete awards.
Participating students must pay the schools regular tuition and fees, in addition to any fees charged by the on-line program(s) in which they participate.
The pilot ISP has been approved for the 2007-2008 school year only; the program will be evaluated at the end of the year and a determination made regarding its future implementation.
Questions regarding the ISP should be directed to Eric Stroupe, Vice Principal for Curriculum, via email or telephone at (949) 493-9307.
