Instrumental Music Program
The focus of the instrumental music program is to foster an appreciation of music and encourage young musicians while increasing their knowledge of music reading, music theory and performance techniques. The study of music at JSerra through the performing ensembles will include:
The Steel Drum Band Ensembles, String Orchestra, and Wind Ensemble will be performing a Christmas Concert on December 1st with the JSerra Choir at the San Juan Tree Lighting Ceremony. The concert will begin at 7pm and is open to the public. The Steel Drum Ensembles will also be performing at Downtown Disney and the Irvine Spectrum in the spring.
The Wind Ensemble and String Orchestra will be attending Spring Music Festivals and we hope to introduce a new Spring Pop’s Concert to our list of performances this year.
Mr. Mike Fleischman is JSerra’s new Instrumental Music Director. Though he is new to JSerra, he is not new to high school music. Michael holds a degree in Music Education from the University of Southern California where he was a part of the world famous USC Trojan Marching Band under the direction of Dr. Arthur C. Bartner. He also holds a Master's Degree in Instrumental Conducting from California State, Fullerton where he studied with Dr. Mitch Fennell. Michael has been a regular performer in Southern Calfornia in various recordings, bands and orchestras and has performed with the Tony Award Winning production, Blast! He performed with Blast! on Broadway, at The Disneyland Resort and on the National Tour. Mr. Fleischmann directs the Pep Band, Chamber Orchestra, Steel Drum Band, Percussion Ensemble, Wind Ensemble and Piano Lab. He can be reached at ext. 3116.
