As the founding principal it has been an honor to participate in this unbelievable educational journey that started just six short years ago. Among the most visible changes is the growth in student body. Opening with a freshmen and sophomore class of 155, JSerra’s student population eclipsed 1,000 in 2009. Along with this dramatic increase in numbers, the percentage of students participating in sports, clubs, and activities has also expanded. Eight out of ten students participate in an activity outside the classroom.
Excellence has been our goal from the beginning and we’ve already established ourselves as a school that inspires the best in our students as they strive to reach their potential. A challenging curriculum combined with the efforts of committed and talented educators and supported by outstanding learning facilities blend together to form the engine powering JSerra’s academic success. Scholarly achievements include National Merit Scholar recognition, high AP pass rates, selection as one of the top 50 Catholic High Schools by the Catholic High School Honor Roll, and a 99% matriculation rate to college.
Equally impressive is the success of the JSerra extracurricular programs. In only our third year of league play, JSerra won its first varsity Trinity League team titles in boys' soccer, boys' lacrosse, and baseball. The JSerra steel drum band performed live at Downtown Disney and, in their first year of competition, the Chamber Choir and Women’s Ensemble took first place at the Heritage Festival in San Francisco.
JSerra believes in educating the whole person in a faith based environment. The opportunities for growth and success provided by the academic, spiritual, activities, and service programs are important facets of the student’s educational experience at JSerra. While the school has changed dramatically over the past six years, our commitment to maintaining a strong Catholic identity has not. Our mission is to encourage our young men and women to live their lives in accordance with Gospel values, knowing that they bear witness to a Catholic education.
Needless to say, JSerra continues on a path of dynamic growth as we endeavor to be an exemplary community of learning, leadership, faith, and service. Thanks to the vision and efforts of our founding classes, faculty, parents, and board, current and future Lions have a tradition of excellence upon which to build.
