Peru Mission Trips
JSerra offers two annual mission trips to our sister mission parish in Peru: the first during Thanskgiving, and the second during Easter. Each trip, approximately 40 student missionaries travel to a village called Piura. Piura is affected by extreme poverty, but thanks to Fr. Joe Uhen, the pastor of Santisimio Sacramento Parish, temporary housing was created so that many individuals and groups all over the world may come and serve in his community. With the help of these missionaries, Fr. Joe has been able to provide additional necessary services to the area including as a hospice center and a trade school for individuals who cannot afford to attend college.
The student missionaries of JSerra have built homes and schools as well as taught at schools, visited orphanages, provided homecare visits, and assembled and delivered food care packages.
Student missionaries stay at the parish itself but work and serve the needy of the adjacent neighborhoods and villages. They do not receive credits for serving on this trip; however, they may receive 60-70 Christian Service hours per trip. To be considered for the trip, JSerra students must be up-to-date on their service hour requirements or meet with Ms. Kennedy to determine eligibility.
The application material for the next trips is now available. Missionaries are picked by lottery with priority given to seniors who have not previously attended.
