JSerra Catholic High School was founded in 2003 by a group of dedicated parents with a shared vision to advance young adults in pursuit of academic excellence. Built upon the foundation of the Catholic faith, the main tenets of the school were the formation of faith, intellect, and character. This continues to hold true today.
The school was only the fourth lay-founded, private Roman Catholic high school in the country and is named after Blessed St. Junipero Serra. St. Serra founded the Catholic missions in California during the 18th century and devoted his life to promoting faith and education.
From the first class of 156 students in 2003, the dedicated staff and administration worked meticulously to develop innovative and exceptional academic programs, including advanced placement (AP) classes and honors courses. Through positive word-of-mouth, enrollment quadrupled within the first three years.
By 2006, the impressive 29-acre athletics complex was completed with an Olympic sized pool, artificial turf for safety and playability, and a state-of-the-art training center. Competition began within the Trinity League – the most competitive league in the nation.
Today, JSerra offers its students five acclaimed Professional Magnet Programs and online education options. Its excellent academic programs have nurtured and developed National Merit Scholarship winners and a Fulbright Scholar.
The Lion’s sports teams have produced college scholarship and professional athletes. The school is proud of its Trinity League, CIF and state championships.
JSerra continues to thrive and grow as its students and alumni become leaders in their families, neighborhoods, churches and professional communities.
