Congratulations to rising seniors Anthony Foley and Grant Sage! Both students were selected to be delegates at this year's Boys State of California Program in Sacramento. American Legion Boys State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for U.S. high-school students.

Last night JSerra staff, fans, and supporters packed the City Council meeting in San Juan Capistrano to request approval for home football games for the fall. City Council voted 4-0-1 in favor of the JSerra proposal. It was a great night for the Lion Nation and guarantees five home games this fall as a result.

The Minnesota Twins selected JSerra Catholic High School shortstop and recent alumnus Royce Lewis with the No. 1 pick in the Major League Baseball draft Monday night. Lewis played both shortstop and outfield at JSerra, but the Twins classified him as a shortstop when Commissioner Rob Manfred made the announcement at MLB Network studios.

The National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) has selected Royce Lewis of JSerra Catholic High School as the 2017 NHSCA National High School Senior Baseball Athlete of the Year Award.

The annual Spirit of the MACY Awards, founded in 1969 to encourage and celebrate achievement in Southern California high school musical theater, were held May 28 at Segerstrom Center for the Arts. Judges reviewed 58 musicals at 44 schools this year, and selected five JSerra actors....

JSerra Head Coach Kirk Orahood has been named the OC Varsity Boys Tennis Coach of the Year by OC Register! The achievements of Orahood and his fellow honoree coaches and athletes from around Orange County will be celebrated at the 2017 Athlete & Coach of the Year Awards at the Marconi Automotive Museum in Tustin on June 8.

Yesterday OC Catholic featured JSerra Catholic High School's annual Easter missionary trip to Peru. Visit OC Catholic to read about this challenging and humbling experience in which a team of 41 student missionaries served the impoverished town of Piura — just one week after a massive rain had flooded the area.

Last Friday members of the JSerra Choir went up against seven competing ensembles at the Southern California Vocal Association and ended up taking the top two spots with the JSerra Chamber Singers placing first and the JSerra Advanced Women's Ensemble placing second. The Lions also received a perfect score — the first time in school history to receive one at a festival!

JSerra's Theatre Department gave four stellar performances of Beauty and the Beast that received rave reviews from the Orange County Register. The National Latin Exam is a nationally-administered exam for students studying Latin in both high school and middle school. The exam is so challenging that JSerra Latin Teacher James Alvarado said, "Winning a National Latin Exam award is very much akin to hitting the winning home run in the World Series!"

Sophomore Jessica Kardish's stunning artwork was chosen from 1,000 submissions to the Imagination Celebration Art Exhibit to compete at the prestigious Laguna Beach Festival of Arts this summer. Entitled 2014, the pen and ink portrait was entirely composed of words that explore the feelings of the subject.

Thanks to JSerra parent Dan Mueller (who is dad to twins Luke and Andy '15 as well as Caitlin '19), a photo of JSerra Baseball's annual Christmas Tree Fundraiser is now "U-Haul famous." Mueller's photo depicts a candid moment when two Baseball players and a Marine unloaded Christmas tree donations for families at Camp Pendleton last December.

Reporter Michele Giles of CBS2 visited JSerra's 3D Makerz Club yesterday to witness their first fitting of a prosthetic leg on a chihuahua-terrier rescue who is missing a front limb. Led by club president Isabella Sills, the artificial limb was designed and made by the students, whose club mission is to educate others about 3D printing and use the knowledge to help individuals — including the four-legged kind!

Junior Austin Brotman has been making national headlines after achieving a perfect score on the ACT — less than 18 months after a paralyzing spinal injury. His story of character and resilience has been featured on the front page of the OC Register as well as Yahoo and MSN — and now he has been profiled on news show Inside Edition. The Capistrano Dispatch reports on a talented trio of JSerra Catholic High School alumni who are contributing to a historic season for the Hofstra University men's lacrosse team. JSerra graduates Brenden Lynch, Mitch Kingsley, Jimmy Yanes and the Pride are off to a perfect 10-0 start to their season, and remain the only undefeated program in NCAA Division 1.

Senior Josh Barri's college decision was announced on CBS2/KCAL9 and subsequently made national headlines on Inside Edition. It was a difficult choice as Barri had received fifteen substantial scholarships from fifteen universities — totaling nearly $1.1M.

Stanford-bound senior Katie Glavinovich recorded Orange County-leading times in the 500-yard freestyle (4:57.38) and 200 individual medley (2:03.90) in a meet against Santa Margarita. Congratulations Katie!

In the realm of Chemistry, a team of four JSerra students recently competed in the U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad. Under the tutelage of teacher Jennifer Mcadam, they finished 12th in Orange County (out of 43 schools) — which is particularly meaningful considering this was JSerra's first time in the competition.

Seniors Nick Callen and Riley O'Brien were honored at the National Football Foundation's Orange County Chapter's annual Scholar-Athletes Awards Dinner this past Monday. Honorees must be all-league or all-conference first team while maintaining a GPA of 3.6 or higher.
