Junior Austin Brotman has been making national headlines after achieving a perfect score on the ACT — less than 18 months after a paralyzing spinal injury. The Capistrano Dispatch reports on a talented trio of JSerra Catholic High School alumni who are contributing to a historic season for the Hofstra University men's lacrosse team. JSerra graduates Brenden Lynch, Mitch Kingsley, Jimmy Yanes and the Pride are off to a perfect 10-0 start to their season, and remain the only undefeated program in NCAA Division 1.

Senior Josh Barri's college decision was announced on CBS2/KCAL9 and subsequently made national headlines on Inside Edition. It was a difficult choice as Barri had received fifteen substantial scholarships from fifteen universities — totaling nearly $1.1M.

Stanford-bound senior Katie Glavinovich recorded Orange County-leading times in the 500-yard freestyle (4:57.38) and 200 individual medley (2:03.90) in a meet against Santa Margarita. Congratulations Katie!

In the realm of Chemistry, a team of four JSerra students recently competed in the U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad. Under the tutelage of teacher Jennifer Mcadam, they finished 12th in Orange County (out of 43 schools) — which is particularly meaningful considering this was JSerra's first time in the competition.

Seniors Nick Callen and Riley O'Brien were honored at the National Football Foundation's Orange County Chapter's annual Scholar-Athletes Awards Dinner this past Monday. Honorees must be all-league or all-conference first team while maintaining a GPA of 3.6 or higher.

JSerra Theatre Company placed third in Makeup Design at the Fullerton College High School Theatre Festival! This was only JSerra's second year participating in the competition, which includes fifty high schools from all around California.

Senior Nico Abusaid was honored on Sunday, March 19 as a nominee at the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Student of the Year Award Reception. This event marked an important milestone for Abusaid, whose amazing efforts for the Society have been nothing less than outstanding.

Hats off to seniors Daniel Blackburn and Matthew Feldmann, who were recently selected as National Merit Finalists! To put this achievement in perspective, of the more than 1.6 million soon-to-be high school graduates across the country, fewer than 16,000 earn this honor (about 1%).

JSerra's Academic Decathlon team battled fifteen local high schools to win 4th place in overall team score at the Orange County Academic Decathlon. The intense competition took place over two weekends: the first focused on speech, interview, and essay at Tustin High school while the second covered tests and "super quiz" at Westminster High School....

JSerra Advanced Drawing & Painting and AP Studio Art students walked off with 42 awards in the Western Regional Scholastic Art and Writing Competition this year! They were awarded 4 golds, 13 silvers and 25 honorable mentions. The golds medal winners will go on to compete at the national level....

For the first time in JSerra Boys Basketball history, the Varsity team has been selected to play in the CIF-SS Open Division. A committee of coaches, media members, and CIF officials selects the 16 best teams in Southern California (out of more than 500 in the CIF-S) to play in the Open Division. For first-year Head Coach Zach Brogdon, this prestigious honor solidifies JSerra's place among the best teams in Southern California.

In celebration of Catholic Schools Week, JSerra Catholic High School held its inaugural Spelling Bee on Feb. 1 for 5th and 6th grade students currently enrolled at one of seven local partner schools.
