Last night JSerra staff, fans, and supporters packed the City Council meeting in San Juan Capistrano to request approval for home football games for the fall. City Council voted 4-0-1 in favor of the JSerra proposal. It was a great night for the Lion Nation and guarantees five home games this fall as a result.

The Minnesota Twins selected JSerra Catholic High School shortstop and recent alumnus Royce Lewis with the No. 1 pick in the Major League Baseball draft Monday night. Lewis played both shortstop and outfield at JSerra, but the Twins classified him as a shortstop when Commissioner Rob Manfred made the announcement at MLB Network studios.

JSerra Boys Soccer's Rhett Cook ('17) has committed to Colorado Mesa this fall. A talented soccer player, Cook led Orange County in goals saved during his sophomore year with 108 saves.

The National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) has selected Royce Lewis of JSerra Catholic High School as the 2017 NHSCA National High School Senior Baseball Athlete of the Year Award.

JSerra Head Coach Kirk Orahood has been named the OC Varsity Boys Tennis Coach of the Year by OC Register! The achievements of Orahood and his fellow honoree coaches and athletes from around Orange County will be celebrated at the 2017 Athlete & Coach of the Year Awards at the Marconi Automotive Museum in Tustin on June 8.

Congratulations to Dylan Euzarraga, who was named Boys Tennis Athlete of the Week by OC Varsity. The senior was 6-0 last week in singles play last week, guiding the Lions to first- and second-round playoff victories over Brea Olinda and Garden Grove in Division 3. Euzarraga, who also won the Trinity League singles title, is 75-4 this season.

Just three years ago, five freshmen were part of a Varsity tennis team whose record was 2 wins and 18 losses. Today those student-athletes are part of a team that has completely reversed their record: 18 wins and 2 losses!

No. 9 JSerra beat No. 4 Mater Dei,10-5, on Friday in a Trinity League game at JSerra High to win two out of the three games in the season series against the Monarchs.

The Capistrano Dispatch reports on a talented trio of JSerra Catholic High School alumni who are contributing to a historic season for the Hofstra University men's lacrosse team. JSerra graduates Brenden Lynch, Mitch Kingsley, Jimmy Yanes and the Pride are off to a perfect 10-0 start to their season, and remain the only undefeated program in NCAA Division 1.

We needed everyone's best on Wednesday night and many of our young men and women brought just that to the track. Our women's 4x100 relay, consisting of Jordyn Gather, Mia Conti, Sarah Ayala and Kennedy Carter, ran a personal best time of 50.90 seconds setting the tone for the rest of the evening. Immediately following, in the men's 1600m race Matthew Burkhardt in an epic battle down the last straight away achieved his personal best time of 4:31 and hung on to out last his opponent for the top spot.

Stanford-bound senior Katie Glavinovich recorded Orange County-leading times in the 500-yard freestyle (4:57.38) and 200 individual medley (2:03.90) in a meet against Santa Margarita. Congratulations Katie!

Seniors Nick Callen and Riley O'Brien were honored at the National Football Foundation's Orange County Chapter's annual Scholar-Athletes Awards Dinner this past Monday. Honorees must be all-league or all-conference first team while maintaining a GPA of 3.6 or higher.
