Football had another great week with a win over Bishop Amat (59-35). Tomorrow the Varsity team looks to carry that success to Vista Murrieta, who promises to be a difficult opponent. Some of the notable players of last week's game were Sam Guinane, TJ Medina, Tarik Luckett, MuNir McClain, Garret Phillips, Jack Bolduc and Malik McClain. Watch the exciting highlights here.
BOYS WATER POLO
The Varsity team had a gritty, hard-fought weekend with five intense games over two days at the Weisz Memorial Tournament. Three games were back-and-forth battles that were decided within the last three minutes of regulation. The boys improved their play with each outing. It's early in the season but you can already see chemistry building between them. Superb goaltending by Chris Haggard and Ben Beythoun kept the team out of trouble repeatedly throughout the competition. The boys look to build on last weekend with games against Sage Hill and Trabuco Hills.
The boys were the overall winners at the Laguna Hill Invitational based on cumulative team time (combined time of our five fastest runners from all grades). Of the six races contested, the Running Lions won four individual titles: Nadia Tabrizi and Pete Herold won at Laguna for the third year in a row, Kennie Arriola won his first-ever Laguna title, and Anthony Grover was the squad's runner of the meet for his aggressive victory in the boys sophomore race. Their dominance was so complete that our athletes reported multiple occasions when spectators marveled aloud at the speed of the JSerra runners. The Running Lions are prepping for the Woodbridge Invitational so come out and cheer them on this Saturday!
The girls are off to a great start this year with a record of 5-1. The following athletes have been medalists in the matches thus far: Krystina Wilson, Mollie Owen (4x), and Erin Tritz. Congratulations for a great start to the season!
Girls Tennis has had a solid start to their season thus far with freshman Taylor Barnes leading the way. She is currently undefeated with 15 sets won — this includes sweeps over tough opponents Sage Hill, St. Margaret's and Tesoro! The girls will play Corona Del Mar at home today. Good luck, ladies!
Girls Volleyball competed in the Dave Mohs Tournament last weekend and had a strong showing with wins over Centennial, Huntington Beach, Lakewood, and Santiago. They were runner-up in the Silver Championship. They host Laguna Beach and Foothill at home this week before opening up Trinity League play against Rosary.
Girls Lacrosse Fall Camp begins Monday 9/18. It's not too late to register so sign up today!
Rugby Club registration is officially open! Rugby is a winter season sport — practices commence the week of 11/6 with matches played in December and January. Athletic eligibility packets must be completed online prior to practices. Register here.
Athletes who are interested but need more information before they commit should attend an informational session on Monday 9/18 at 2:40 p.m. in Room 3217. Questions? Contact Coach Louis Mosconi at firstname.lastname@example.org.
