JSerra Announces 2010 CIF Championship Boys Soccer Team Elected to Hall of Fame

JSerra Catholic High School announces the school's first CIF Championship team has been selected into the newly minted JSerra Athletics Hall of Fame. Athletic Director Chris Ledyard confirmed the 2010 CIF Championship Boy's Soccer Team, led by former Head Coach Davor Fabulich, as the third entry into the hall of fame and the first team award.

Ledyard stated, "Any championship performance is a worthy celebration, but for such a young school playing in the highly competitive Trinity League, and the caliber of opponents playing Division 1 soccer, what this team did was nothing short of incredible."

The 2010 Boys Soccer team was led by Juan "Crabby" Gutierrez, who garnered Orange County Player of the Year and CIF Division 1 player of the year. Crabby finished the year with 51 points and 12 goals coming in league play. The 2010 Lions also had five 1st Team All-Leaguers in Sean Hudnall, Frankie Bastone, Jonathan Canales, Lucas Dall'Orso, and Gutierrez. The Lions added three 2nd Team All-Leaguers in Dylan Seedman, Kyle Pierce, and Mitch Gonzales.

The team had an overall record of 25-5-2 and were crowned Trinity League champions after a 2-0 victory over the Monarchs of Mater Dei — the Lions' second League Championship in a row.

Their path towards the school's first CIF Championship was difficult as CIF Division 1 is arguably the most competitive in the nation. With close victories over Aliso Niguel (2-1), Huntington Beach (2-0), Esperanza (2-1 — penalty kicks 5-4), Northwood (2-0) in the Semi-Finals, and ultimately the pinnacle win versus Harvard Westlake (2-1).

Head Coach Davor Fabulich had reached a euphoric moment with that win by delivering the first CIF Championship in the school's history.

"It was a year of many firsts, and we were so proud of the moment when we won the CIF Championship and brought this institution its first of hopefully many to come in all sports," said Fabulich. "It was an exceptional group, and we had an amazing run with some very special young men."

The inaugural JESPY Awards this spring will highlight the year's athletic achievements and open the JSerra Athletics Hall of Fame. The event will take place on Thursday, May 27, and kick off graduation weekend festivities.

The JSerra Athletics Department currently presents a JESPY Award (JSerra Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Award) to recognize individual and team athletic achievement and other sports-related performance during the calendar year. The Hall of Fame will open with the first class of inductees honoring the achievements and contributions of alumni, boosters, and community members who have played an integral role in the history of JSerra Athletics.
