On January 29, 2025, JSerra Catholic High School opened its doors to students from Our Lady Queen of Angels, Mission Basilica, St. Edwards, St. Serra, St. Anne, Saints Simon and Jude, Our Lady of Fatima and St. John’s Episcopal for an unforgettable day of friendly academic competition.
Marking the seventh Spelling Bee hosted by JSerra, the event shown a spotlight on 22 local students who demonstrated remarkable spelling acumen and resilience across an incredible 23 rounds of competition. With each passing round, the competition grew more intense as students confidently tackled words of increasing difficulty. Contestants displayed skill and perseverance, reflecting the strong academic foundations fostered by their respective schools.
After a hard-fought battle, Andres J. from St. Anne’s emerged victorious, clinching first place with an outstanding performance. Captain K. from Our Lady of Fatima followed closely, earning a well-deserved second place, while Dario M. of St. John’s Episcopal secured third place, showcasing remarkable skill and composure throughout the competition. The third-place winner received a $1,000 annual scholarship to JSerra for four years, the second-place finisher earned a $2,000 annual scholarship, and the champion of the JSerra Spelling Bee was awarded a $3,000 annual scholarship.
The Spelling Bee was more than just an academic challenge—it was a celebration of private education, intellectual excellence, and community spirit. It also provided young students with a glimpse into what could be the future of their academic journey while fostering camaraderie among local schools. With this year’s Spelling Bee setting a high bar, the excitement is already building for next year’s competition.
