JSerra Students Volunteer with Lake Forest Mayor to Distribute Food
Student volunteers take information drivers sitting in a line of cars.

ASL Teachers Phillip Janes and Tiffany Swann along with Math Teacher Louie Dioso oversaw the outstanding volunteer efforts of eleven JSerra students. The group recently volunteered at a food distribution center for Saddleback Church Food Pantry in Lake Forest. Thanks to the pantry's partnerships with Costco, Starbucks, and grocery store chains, there was plenty of work for volunteers to make an immediate impact serving others.

Seniors Finn Marshall, Kaley Houshmand; juniors Allyson Shozi, Davin Thiede; sophomore Alana Savage; and freshmen Anthony Ashworth, Nuallan Crawford, Jake Tomlinson, Ryan Winkelmann, Brooke Bowman, and John Whittle spent the day checking in cars and safely lining them up; loading car trunks full of groceries (including dairy, poultry, bread, and dry goods) for multiple households; bringing water to drivers; packing and separating items into bags; and, last but not least, praying for those in need.

Lake Forest Mayor Scott Voigts stopped by to volunteer and help bring groceries to incoming families. (He commented to the JSerra teachers that he was very impressed with their students!)

The student volunteers first heard about the food distribution opportunity on the Lion Report. The Lake Forest Civic Center is a monthly opportunity that is open to all ages and backgrounds.

"Our students often show up genuinely looking for ways to uplift each person we cross paths with," said Mrs. Swann. "Even during a pandemic, JSerra Lions shine bright, giving their time, being generous, and loving on purpose."
