Kelly McMinn ('08) will be inducted into the JSerra Hall of Fame at the 3rd Annual JESPY Awards on May 25. McMinn was a standout goalie for the Boys Lacrosse team and the first JSerra lacrosse player to play at the Division I level.
While at JSerra, McMinn was a dual sport athlete, playing both football and lacrosse. He was a team captain and MVP his senior year and received the award for Male Athlete of the Year. On the lacrosse field, he was a brick wall in the cage, with a save percentage above 70%. During his senior year, McMinn was First Team All-County, First Team All American, and signed to play Division 1 lacrosse at the Virginia Military Institute.
"I was lucky enough to watch Kelly play lacrosse as a middle schooler and a high school player from the opposite sideline and Kelly was nearly unbeatable in the goal," said JSerra Head Boys Lacrosse Coach. "He played with a fire and intensity others didn't have and was one of the first players from Orange County to play at the Division 1 level. He is very deserving of this award, and I am happy for him."
"Kelly was a pioneer of the lacrosse program and for JSerra. Geographically, the best schools for lacrosse are on the east coast, so for Kelly to play lacrosse and get recruited from JSerra to the highest level of the sport speaks volume to skill set," said Athletic Director Chris Ledyard. "His hard work and dedication helped to pave the way for future generations of lacrosse players who dream of playing at the highest level."
The JSerra Hall of Fame recognizes those pioneers, legends, individuals, and teams who helped lay the foundation of our athletic programs. Kelly McMinn joins past inductees, such as the 2009 Baseball Team, Peter Bastone, Mark Spizzirri, and the 2006/2007 class of JSerra athletes.
