JSerra Orchestra & Jazz Band Presents "Romeo & Juliet" and "All That Jazz"

Last Saturday's JSerra Orchestra and Jazz Band Fall Concert at the Lake Forest Civic Center was an evening of electrifying performances from numerous student groups. It featured JSerra's Symphony Orchestra, Arts Magnet Orchestra Nexus, and Jazz Band.

Under the direction of Mr. Travis King, the Jazz Band played "Can't Turn You Loose" (Otis Redding), "Afro Blue" (Mongo Santamaría), "Cantaloupe Island" (Herbie Hancock), and "Cissy Struggle" (The Meters).

The Arts Magnet Orchestra Nexus performed the dixieland traditional, "Just a Closer Walk With Thee," the theme from the 1968 Romeo and Juliet film by Franco Zeffirelli, and "A Time For Us" (Nino Rota).

Doubling down on the theme of jazz meets Romeo and Juliet, the Symphony Orchestra performed "Symphonic Dances" from West Side Story (Leonard Bernstein), "Romeo and Juliet Overture" (Tchaikovsky), and concluded with a teacher drum battle over "Sing, Sing, Sing" (Louis Prima). These last three pieces also featured student conductors seniors Nathan Schrodt, Kai Benumof, and Katherine Fonseca.
