Junior Mia Scialdone Wins Prestigious Photography Prize

Congratulations to rising junior Mia Scialdone, who was recently awarded a Gold Medal for Photography by the National Scholastic Arts & Writing Awards program.

Scialdone was invited to receive the award in front of a national audience at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

The National Scholastic Arts & Writing Awards is the oldest and most prestigious arts awards program at the high school level in the country. Past winners would include Richard Avedon, Truman Capote, Andy Warhol, Robert Redford, and Stephen King.

This year over 100,000 students entered more than 260,000 works of art. Less than 1% received awards and only a handful of those received gold medals.

"Mia is an incredibly talented photographer," said JSerra Photography Teacher Joe Latter. "We wish her continued success!"
