Seal of Biliteracy Program
The JSerra Seal of Biliteracy is an award that recognizes graduating students who have attained the admirable goal of proficiency in two or more languages. Students who attain the JSerra Seal of Biliteracy are bestowed with recognition at the Senior Awards Ceremony in May, a colored cord to wear at graduation, and a distinction on their transcript. Students can declare the JSerra Seal of Biliteracy on college and job applications.
To be eligible for the JSerra Seal of Biliteracy, students must meet the four criteria outlined below. If you have met the criteria for the JSerra Seal of Biliteracy, please complete an application by clicking on the link at the bottom of this page.

Criteria:
Students must meet all four criteria to receive recognition:
English Criteria / Assessment 1:
Students must successfully complete a four-year course of study in English with a GPA of 3.0 or higher in those classes.
English Criteria / Assessment 2:
Students must score as follows on one of these assessments:
- PSAT (Reading and Writing) score of 460 or higher; or
- SAT (Evidence-based Reading and Writing) score of 510 or higher; or
- ACT (English and Composition) score of 38 or higher; or
- AP English Language and Composition or AP English Literature and Composition score of 3 or higher.
World Language Criteria / Assessment 1:
Students must complete at least two years of study in a World Language with a GPA of 3.0 or higher in those classes.
World Language Criteria / Assessment 2:
Students must score as follows on one of these assessments:
- Spanish: AP Spanish Language and Culture or AP Spanish Literature and Culture with a score of 3 or higher.
- Chinese: AP Chinese Language and Culture score of 3 or higher.
- French: AP French Language and Culture score of 3 or higher.
- Latin: AP Latin score of 3 or higher.
- ASL: ASLPI score of 4 or higher; or Avant STAMP score of 561 or higher; and passing score on a JSerra ASL Grammatical Sentence test.
