Placement Policies

Students must take courses at JSerra to fulfill graduation requirements. Any course taken outside JSerra Catholic High School for advancement and/or to meet prerequisites, must be pre-approved by the Vice Principal and will not be included in your transcript.

Initial placement into the upper level, honors, and AP courses will require at least the following (check course descriptions for additional prerequisites):

  • A in the 1st semester and 3rd quarter of prior college prep course
  • B in the 1st semester and 3rd quarter of prior honors or AP course
  • All placement is pending and will be finalized based on the 2nd semester grade meeting the requirements of the course.
  • Students who do not meet the prerequisites are welcome to petition the course at the end of 2nd semester, however, placement is not guaranteed.

All students who receive a semester grade of “D” or “F” are required to take action to meet academic and/or graduation requirements. A grade of “F” must be remediated to satisfy graduation requirements. Students who receive a grade of “D” are recommended to remediate to improve their GPA and may need to do so to advance to the next course level. Only grades of “D” or “F” are eligible for remediation. The previous grade will still appear on the transcript, and both the remediated and original grade are calculated in the GPA.
