Summer School

Summer classes are extremely fast-paced. For in-person classes, in addition to the four hours of instruction received each day, it is important for each student to allocate additional time after school to work on homework. For online classes, organizational skills are critical and an even greater time commitment is necessary.

• In-Person Classes: Attendance and tardy rules apply. These classes run 3.5 hours per day.

• College Application Boot Camp: Two four-day sessions are scheduled this summer.

Freshman Immersion: It is strongly recommended that all incoming freshmen attend one 4-day session of Freshman Immersion during the summer prior to their freshman year. This course is designed to help students achieve success in their high school years. The goals of this course are to intentionally build community, engage in formation of our mission, and acquire the necessary technology skills to be successful in the day-to-day requirements at JSerra. 

Freshman Immersion:

Students must attend all 4 days; no absences will be allowed.

All In-Person Classes:

Due to the short nature of the Summer Session, students are permitted only 1 absence per session and only 2 tardies per session. All students must be present for the in-person final exam on the last day of each session. More than one absence and more than two tardies will cause the student to forfeit credit for the class. Summer School tuition is non-refundable.

If a student will be absent

Student should email their teacher directly. Parents/Guardians need to contact Attendance.

CONTACT ATTENDANCE

If a student arrives late

Student should report directly to class. If the student arrives more than 10 minutes late, they will be marked tardy.

If a student must leave early

Parents/guardians are required to give the school a signed note indicating the reason for leaving early as well as the time the student should be released from class. The note should be given to the receptionist in the Library. The student should also notify their teacher if they need to leave early.

Please note that students must adhere to the dress code guidelines outlined in our Parent-Student Handbook and listed below. Students should maintain a neat and clean appearance, being modest and tasteful. A JSerra uniform is not required.  

DRESS CODE

• Clothing is to be neat, clean, and modest in appearance with no visible undergarments.  

• Clothing may not be torn, cut, slit, ragged, or have holes.  

• No sheer clothing.  

• Tight clothing, shirts which expose the midriff, and low-cut tops are unacceptable.  

• Clothing with any inappropriate symbols, pictures, or words is not acceptable.  

• No leggings, yoga pants, or pajamas.  

• No flip-flops, slippers, or slides.  

• All undergarments must be covered. 

Male Students

• Must be clean-shaven. No facial hair is allowed.   

• No piercings are allowed.   

• Shoes must be secured at the toe and heel (no sandals or Crocs). Shoes must be worn at all times.   

• No bizarre or distracting hairstyles. Hair color must be consistent and natural.   

Female Students

• Body piercings are limited to the ear lobe. Earrings should not be excessively dangling.   

• Shoes must be secured at the toe and heel (no sandals or Crocs). Shoes must be worn at all times. Boots or slippers are not permitted.   

• No bizarre or distracting hairstyles. Hair color must be consistent and natural.   

In all matters of appearance, the Summer School Principal reserves the final judgment with regard to compliance to our policies.

Students are not allowed to use their cell phones during the school day unless their teacher grants permission for classroom use. JSerra strictly enforces this policy. If a student is found using their cell phone, it will be confiscated, and a parent or guardian will need to pick it up from the school administration personally.  

The JSerra behavior code is intended to provide good order indispensable for the serious pursuit of academic excellence and for the high moral tone expected at JSerra. Behavior that is dangerous or keeps students from learning or prevents the teacher from teaching is not acceptable and will not be tolerated. Observance of this behavior code will put demands on the students’ self-control and growth toward maturity. The school reserves the right to review unsatisfactory conduct. The school is entitled to discipline the student with detention, suspension, probation, and/or dismissal should any of these be deemed justified by the school. The knowledge and compliance of the behavior code is expected of every student enrolled at JSerra.

JSerra’s Administration reserves the right to review the conduct and actions of JSerra students regardless of when or where such actions take place if they are of a nature to bring discredit to the school or if they conflict with the Catholic values for which JSerra stands.

McMackin Bistro will be closed over the summer. Students should bring their own lunch and snacks. During the school day, students may not leave campus at any time to purchase food. Students are not allowed to eat in their classrooms.
