3rd Annual JSerra Spelling Bee
The 3rd Annual JSerra Spelling Bee has come and gone and what an exciting event it was! The top 5th and 6th grade spellers from eight of JSerra's local partner schools competed to be the Spelling Bee champion. With each school bringing their own student section to cheer on their classmates, the energy on January 30th was at an all-time high.
Forty-five students took their seat on the gym floor with hopes of bringing the trophy back to their campus. As the Bee progressed, the words chosen by Vice Principal Donna Vandenberg progressively became more and more difficult. The "ding" sound created by Principal Eric Stroupe was the last thing the competitors wanted to hear.
Round by round, students continued to put forth their best efforts until the competition was down to two participants, Drew Yeager of Mission Basilica and Sarah Azanki from Saint Junipero Serra Catholic School. The championship round concluded with Drew Yeager victorious, bringing the trophy back to Mission Basilica School for a second straight year.
Special thanks to JSerra alumnus Austin Hedges ('11) of the San Diego Padres for coming out and being a part of the event!
