Instrumental Music
JSerra hosts a myriad of music courses during the regular school day for beginning, intermediate, and advanced student musicians.
ORCHESTRA
JSerra offers a dynamic orchestra program for students with previous experience playing in middle school concert band or orchestra ensembles.
- The advanced Chamber Orchestra is open by audition to advanced woodwind, brass, percussion, or string instrumentalists. Chamber Orchestra is a very active ensemble that performs many annual concerts, school masses, and as the pit orchestra for the theater musical.
- The intermediate Wind Ensemble (woodwinds, brass, and percussion instruments) and String Orchestra (string instruments) courses regularly combine with the Chamber Orchestra to form the JSerra Symphony Orchestra for combined rehearsals, informal gigs, and 3-4 large annual concerts.
Our orchestras play a wide range of exciting repertoire — from classical music to film soundtracks — and provide a strong sense of community and identity for our students.
About Orchestra
Being a part of Orchestra at JSerra helped me find my passion for instrumental music as well as achieve musical excellence throughout my high school career.

Orchestra in Action
ROCK BAND
Our after-school Rock Band classes — known to the larger school community as The Mane Event (Varsity Rock Band) and The Replacements (Junior Varsity Rock Band) — perform covers of rock songs at school events, athletic competitions, and music department concerts.
Every spring semester, each rock band learns to play a classic album in its entirety.
The Mane Event is open by selective audition to experienced singers, guitarists, bassists, drummers, pianists, and horn players (trumpet, saxophone, etc).

PIANO
Beginner pianists learn the basics of the instrument and how to read music while intermediate and advanced students refine their technique in an individualized curriculum.
HANDBELLS
The Handbell Ensemble is designed for those that enjoy music but want to do so in a true "team" atmosphere. They learn a variety of songs and play in several performances throughout the year.
GUITAR
Our guitar courses are oriented towards rock/pop music as students master guitar techniques by learning to play a wide range of songs
