Retreats
Campus Ministry is committed to advancing the spiritual lives of all JSerra students. One of the best ways that this is accomplished is through the dynamic, moving, and insanely fun retreats. Retreats are designed for each grade level and are optional.
What Retreats Offer
Over one-third of the student body attends one of our ten optional retreats each year, hosted at an off-campus site. Retreats include time for recreation via swimming pools, water slides, challenge courses, and game rooms, while taking advantage of natural surroundings conducive to personal reflection and an encounter with Christ through prayer, Mass, Confession, and praise and worship.
Retreat Themes
As a student progresses from freshman to senior year, the retreats grow steadily in their depth and various activities. Campus Ministers and other JSerra faculty prepare and work to make the themes relatable to students — leading games, singing songs, and giving personal witness to their own faith.
- 9th - Anchored: Building a Relation with God
- 10th - Prodigal: The Story of the Prodigal Son
- 11th - Unstoppable: The Life of St. Paul
- 12th - Kairos
Every student should put a retreat on their calendar, round up their friends to join them, and come find out why retreats are such a vital piece of the JSerra experience!
EXCUSED ABSENCES & SCHOOL WORK POLICY
Retreats are considered excused absences (see page 41 of the Parent-Student Handbook). Furthermore, students who miss a day of classes for a retreat will receive one extra school day to make up schoolwork that has been missed.
For example, if a student were to miss class on Thursday and Friday, according to school policy, they would be given two extra school days to make up schoolwork. All assignments, including tests and quizzes, would be due the following Wednesday after the retreat. Students should speak with their teachers about work they will miss as it will be a great opportunity for them to look ahead so they do not fall behind.
